Acai berry research is yielding very exciting results for health conscious consumers who take acai berry supplements regularly and for the scientific community at large. These little purple berries contain a healthy dose of antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals that may serve to improve your overall health and well being.

Research
shows that individuals who consume a diet rich in antioxidants live
longer and healthier lives.
Clinical
research studies have shown that a high
antioxidant defense system may help reduce inflammation which minimize
the
risk of heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and other
diseases that tend to occur
as you get older.
The findings
show how the powerful antioxidants
in acai berry may protect the body from the damage caused by free
radicals. Science has shown that free radicals are the cause of many
age-related diseases such as heart disease and some types of cancer.
Based on
an ORAC value of
102,700, acai berry has more antioxidants than any other fruit!
The first
research study involving
acai berry
and humans was published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food
Chemistry in
August 2008. The research was conducted at Texas A&M
University.
The study
demonstrated that the human body was able to absorb the antioxidant
properties
of organic freeze dried acai.
The
significance of these findings is that antioxidants from acai berry
enter the cells
of the human body and therefore play an important role in the fight
against
aging and protection from disease.
Previous
studies have shown that the body can absorb antioxidants from other
fruit, but until now, there had been no prior research to test if acai antioxidants
could be
absorbed by the human body.

An
earlier study conducted at the University of
Florida reported another amazing breakthrough. Scientists
discovered that the powerful antioxidants in acai berry triggered a
“self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells.”
The
study involved six different chemical extracts that were made from the
pulp of
the berry. Each extract was prepared in seven different concentrations.
Four
of the extracts were shown to kill a significant number of leukemia
cells in a
cell-culture model when applied for 24 hours. Depending on the extract
and the
concentration of antioxidants, an estimated 35 percent to 86 percent of
the
cancer cells died.

Acai berry
research is likely to continue as more and more consumers discover how
acai antioxidants act as a natural defense system for the body to fight
free radicals, protect against cellular damage and slow the aging
process.
Of all the superfoods in the world, the acai
berry holds
tremendous promise as an all natural approach to preserving health and
to
maintaining a well balanced body.
